Co-directed by Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher and French street artist JR, the captivating short, inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, creatively blends art, philosophy, and cinema, where the urban environment becomes a living, breathing version of the cave, and everyday moments reveal hidden depths of meaning.
Set in Paris, the film follows a young mother and her son whose ordinary day transforms into a surreal journey, revealing the hidden dimensions of the city. Leos Carax plays a theatre director, enhancing the film’s playful commentary on illusion.
By inviting viewers to question the boundaries between reality and illusion, the film emphasises on the city as a metaphorical space where reality can be peeled back, similar to JR’s street art.
Rohrwacher’s narrative depth and JR’s visual provocations converge to present a unique artistic commentary on how cities and the images within them shape our perceptions.
