Showcasing contemporary independent cinema from India and around the world every week
Launched in February 2026, the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival began a fresh chapter with MAMI INDEPENDENT, our year-round free weekly screening programme which aims to provide a much-needed platform for bold, independent filmmaking talent from India and around the world on the big screen.
These are films that break the mould, inhabiting perspectives that go beyond the surface, often made on shoestring budgets with minimal resources, with hope and passion, that are prone to get drowned out in the deluge of films that dominate the media and public consciousness. With the initiative, audiences in Mumbai have the consistent opportunity to watch an exciting selection of contemporary independent features, documentaries, shorts, and experimental films.
