The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will feature a variety of sections, including the South Asia Competition, Focus South Asia (Non-Competition), World Cinema, Tributes, Restored Classics, Gala Premieres, Masterclasses, Dimensions Mumbai, and the Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films. This year’s lineup will present a large range of premieres, including over 20 World Premieres, 25+ Asia Premieres, and 35+ South Asia Premieres.

Spanning six days, the 2024 edition of the festival will also present a list of awards, such as the South Asia Competition, NETPAC Award, Excellence in Cinema, Rashid Irani Young Critics Choice Award, Film Critics Guild Gender Sensitivity Award, and the Dimensions Mumbai award.

Interim festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur said in a statement: “The scale of each edition of the festival depends solely on the extent of the support we receive during the year. We are extremely grateful to each and every partner that has stood with us this transition year so that we can continue to bring the best of independent and world cinema to our wonderful audiences in the 2024 edition of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival”.

The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival's first chairperson was renowned filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who served in the position from 1999 until 2014. In 2015, director Kiran Rao, whose film Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2025, took over the role. Rao stepped down in 2019, making way for Deepika Padukone and then Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who took over the chairperson's role in 2021. Renowned personalities such as Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Farhan Akhtar, Kabir Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Zoya Akhtar are on the board of trustees.

Last year, the festival was held across 10 days in November and December. Over 250 films were screened at the 2023 edition, including the opening film The Buckingham Murders and the closing film Priscilla.
