Festival Hub
The festival hub for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 is NMACC (Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre) at BKC. For the first three days, we have some of the biggest titles getting premiered at the Grand Theatre, NMACC.
Jio MAMI Marketplace
Beyond screenings, we have created some exciting spaces for our audience members at NMACC. We are setting up a Brand Marketplace that's been created with the aim of bringing our audiences face-to-face with some of the most exciting International and Indian brands. The same space will also have a Virtual Reality setup. We have an eclectic mix of films in our VR segment; do take time out to visit the space. Both of these will be set up in Lotus, Ballroom 1, Jio World Centre.
Daily Red Carpet
NMACC will also witness a daily red carpet for 2 hours every evening between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Be there to see some of the most talented independent filmmakers walk the red carpet along with your favourite stars. Be there to cheer for them!
Film Market and Industry Programme
Connect with the Sales agents at the Film Markettill 31st October 2023 at Lotus 1. Industry Programme is open only to those with an Industry Badge, our patrons and supporters and the programmed filmmakers at the festival. It will take place at the Festival Hub which is the NMACC and at Sofitel Grand Salon.
It is aimed at fostering networking and connections between sellers and buyers and sharing of best practices, knowledge sharing through workshops and panel discussions. It's also aimed at equipping independent filmmakers with information that would enable them to understand the film festival ecosystem and newer markets for sales and distribution. This programme is open to filmmakers at various stages of their careers.
Press Center
A space dedicated for members of the press to be able to execute their work and to ensure best coverage of the festival and get access to the visiting talent and information on films being showcased at the festival. The Press Centre will be in the Festival Hub of NMACC and open only to accredited members of the press.
Finally, between NMACC and PVR Maison at BKC, a lot will be happening in terms of screenings and other activities. Make sure you're at BKC to experience all that the festival has to offer.

At Jio MAMI, we are committed to creating a safe space for all our stakeholders, including our employees, audiences, guests, partners, media, vendors, and all those who are connected with us through ancillary work. For us, safety means creating environments and experiences that are entirely free from any form of bias, harassment, discrimination, or bullying, irrespective of one's gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, class, age, or ability.
We strongly believe that everyone has the right to respect. Jio MAMI employees and volunteers are committed to ensuring the best possible experience for all of our attendees. If the safety of our guests is in question, we will take immediate steps to ensure the matter is addressed. We also expect guests to cooperate and follow the rules and regulations that are defined to enhance their festival experience. At all points in time, we recommend that our guests follow instructions related to the following:
1) Please follow festival instructions with a positive attitude. These are requests to enable smooth viewing.
2) Please maintain discipline and decorum while standing in line. Our staff will inform you of how many seats would be available based on our data. Kindly do not insist on waiting in line over the counter or argue with the staff who is only trying to help a smooth and safe screening.
3) We keep a few seats for senior citizens. Please allow them access to use these seats.
4) We also have seats for our patrons, supporters and press. They have invested in our festival by supporting us to allow us to be able to screen films for you, our delegates. Please do allow for everyone to access what has been assigned to them.
5) Anyone who creates an atmosphere of nuisance or fear among the delegates will be asked to leave the screening and strict action will be taken by revoking the festival badge.
6) Please do not keep your mobiles ON or use your mobile during the film, the light from your mobile disrupts the viewing experience for the person behind you. Also, please keep your phone silent and do not attend to calls within the theater.
7) We follow strict anti-piracy measures and anyone who is caught taking a video once the film begins will be asked to leave the screening. Strict action will be taken by revoking the festival badge.
8) Media and Press professionals please maintain utmost levels of professionalism and ethical conduct that are customary in the field of journalism, including but not limited to accuracy, respectful interpersonal interactions, and transparent communication while covering the festival.
9) Kindly do not use social media as a complaint cell for complaints that can be resolved.
This is a public festival of a huge scale and we request your cooperation and understanding.

10) We are here because our sponsors have decided to subsidize the cost of films and we do not pass on the cost to the delegate. The Festival is designed keeping all our stakeholders in mind, and we work with a singular purpose to make sure each of our stakeholders has a great experience with and at the festival. However, we would like to underline that we have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, threats, or violence of any kind. Failure to adhere to the Jio MAMI protocols is considered a violation of this Code of Conduct. We retain the right to revoke tickets, passes, credentials, or access to the film festival, associated events, and venues without prior notice or refunds for individuals who do not comply with these guidelines. A. The dates for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 are from 27 October to 5 November 2023. (The film screenings begin across venues on 27 October at 10 AM.)
Q. How do I register for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023?
A. You can register on bookmy-show.live/mami w.e.f 3 October 2023. In addition to online registration, on-ground registration at NMACC, BKC will also open closer to the festival and will be active for the duration of the festival. Please keep checking our social media and website for the same.
Q. What are the different registration categories I can register for?
A. You can register for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 as one of the following –
General Delegate badge: Anyone above 18 years of age interested in watching films, and attending events and masterclasses at the festival. Registration cost is Rs. 1500 inclusive of all taxes.
Senior Citizen badge: Anyone above the age of 60 interested in watching films, and attending events and masterclasses at the festival. Registration cost is Rs. 1000 inclusive of all taxes.
Accredited Press badge: An individual, journalists of all media (print, online, TV, radio) or a media agency that wants to cover the festival. In order for us to assess your application, you will be required to upload various documents. All press registrations are subject to approval by our media team and Jio MAMI reserves the right to approve or deny accreditation. Accredited Press badge is provided free of cost.
Industry badge: Industry accreditation is intended only for film professionals: buyers, distributors, film festival representatives and institutions, producers and sales agents. Registration cost is Rs. 5000 inclusive of all taxes.
Q. What does registering for the festival give me access to?

Seat reservation for Industry badge will be similar to that of a general delegate badge.
Q. Do I have to pay to register as a delegate?
A. Yes, the registration to the festival is paid and valid for the entire duration of the festival. Booking for film screenings and events is free. If you are attending the festival as Accredited Press, the registration is free and upon approval from the festival media team.
Q. Is the registration fee refundable?
A. The registration fee is non-refundable. We request you to read all the necessary information before making a payment for the festival.
Q. What happens after I make the payment?
A. On successful payment, you will be confirmed as a delegate for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023. You will receive an SMS and an email from BookMyShow on your registered mobile number and email ID respectively.
Q. Are there any age restrictions for attending the festival?
A. Yes, you need to be 18 years of age or above to be able to register and attend the film festival.

Q. Can someone else collect my festival badge on my behalf?
A. Each delegate needs to personally collect their festival badge. Only after showing a valid identity card (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter Identity card or Driver`s License) will the badge be given to you. In special cases, you can collect the badge on behalf of someone by showing an authorization letter signed by the badge holder with their valid identity card.
Q. What do I need to carry when I go to pick up my festival badge?
A. Please present the following at the registration desk to collect your festival badge.
The electronically generated confirmation email/SMS.
Valid photo identity card (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter Identity Card or Driver’s License).
Please note that the festival badge will not be issued in the absence of a valid photo identity card (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter Identity Card or Driver`s License).
In the case of an Accredited Press badge, the email stating approval of Press Accreditation from the Jio MAMI Team must be presented.
In the case of a Senior Citizen badge, a government-approved photo identity card that validates the age of 60 or above must be presented.
Q. What can I do if I lose my festival badge?
A. Delegates who have lost their festival badge will have to re-register for a new festival badge for security reasons. Lost festival badges will not be replaced.
Q. Are the festival badges transferable? Can I use any other person’s festival badge?
A. The festival badges are non-transferable. Any misuse or sharing of festival badges is strictly prohibited and the management holds the right to refuse admission for such delegates.
Q. Can I book seats for sessions that happen at the festival screening venues?
A. Yes. You can reserve seats for the sessions (masterclasses, in-conversation sessions, panel discussions) along with the film screenings across all the venues. These sessions will be marked out in the festival schedule and can be booked the same way a seat is reserved for a film screening.
Q. How do I attend a film screening/session?
A. There are two ways to attend a film screening/session:
Reserve a seat: You need to reserve a seat for the film screening/session that you want to attend using your unique Festival Badge number known as the MAMI ID as below.

Your seat can be reserved in the following ways -
1. Online: through bookmy-show.live/mami.
Please note that all seat reservations are subject to availability. You can reserve a seat for a maximum of four different shows/sessions per day. In addition to reserving a seat, you must be seated in the theatre at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the screening/session.
2. Rush / Walk-in line: You can arrive at the screening theatre and wait in the Rush/Walk-in line. You will be given entry to the theatre subject to availability. 30 minutes prior to a screening’s start time, Front of House staff will count the empty seats in the cinema and permit entry to those in the Rush line on a first-come, first-served basis.
All festival screenings/sessions will start at the scheduled time. Latecomers will not be admitted.
Q. What is a Rush / Walk-in line?
A. Rush/Walk-in line is meant for the delegates who have not pre-booked their seats for the screenings/sessions. Depending upon availability, the delegates in this line are given access to the screening/session.
Q. Do I need to reserve seats for each film screening/session separately?
A. Yes. You need to reserve seats for each film screening/session separately. Please note that all seat bookings are subject to availability. In addition to booking a seat, you must be seated in the theatre at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the screening.
Q. Can I make a group booking?
A. No. Individuals can only book a seat for themselves using their unique Festival Badge number.
Q. When can I start booking my seats for a film screening?
A.
Seat reservations for each film screening will open a day prior to the screening day at 8 AM.
For screenings on 27 October 2023, reservations will open on 26 October 2023; For screenings on 28 October, reservations will open 27 October 2023 and so on.

Some seats are reserved for first come, first serve walk-in delegates at the venue so you can try and avail of that facility which is subject to availability
Please note that all seat bookings are subject to availability. In addition to booking a seat, you must be seated in the theatre at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the screening.
Q. Can I change or cancel a booked screening?
A. You cannot change one reserved seat into another. However, you can cancel a particular screening/session and then reserve another screening/session that you might like to watch. All bookings need to be cancelled at least 2 hours prior to the start time of the screening/session. Please note that the new reservation you make post cancelling your existing booking will also be subject to the availability of seats.
Q. In case I am unable to book my seat for a screening/session due to unavailability, what can I do?
A. The festival usually takes this into consideration and tries to schedule multiple screenings of a film. (The same does not apply to sessions). In case you are unable to book a particular film screening, you can do one of the following:
Refer to your screening schedule to see an alternative screening date, day and time and book it in advance.
Check online for sudden availability due to cancellations.
Arrive at the screening auditorium much before the screening time to check if the rush line/ walk-in seats are available at the venue or if there have been any cancellations.
Q. Is there any dress code for attending screenings and events?
A. No. There is no official dress code. We respect individual styles, clothing, and accessories that are dictated by religious beliefs, ethnicity, or disability.

Q. Is there a schedule of screenings and events available?
A. The latest schedule will be available online at www.mumbaifilmfestival.com/schedule and on the MyMAMI app. Every delegate who registers for the festival will also receive a hard copy of the schedule which will be part of the festival bag and other materials.
Q. How can I find out about any changes to the schedule?
A. All screening changes (including date, time, and location) will be announced on our social media channels and the updated schedule will be available on our website and the MyMAMI app.
Q. Are there food and drinks available at the venues?
A. Yes, all venues have food and drinks that can be purchased by you at the venue.
Q. Can I bring cameras or recording devices to cover the event?
A. No cameras or recording devices are permitted inside the screening venues and auditoriums. We strictly condemn the recording of films. Strict actions will be taken against all the individuals who are caught encouraging piracy.
Q. What is MyMAMI App?
A. MyMAMI app is Jio MAMI’s mobile application that will be accessible to everyone during the festival. This app will be available for Android and iOS. To access all the highlights, updates and news about the festival at the tip of your finger, you can download the MyMAMI app for free.
Q. What is the audience choice award?
A.IMDb audience choice award at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will be given to a film that gets maximum from audience members. One would need to vote for it either on MyMAMI app or www.mumbaifilmfestival.com

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Participation in the Voting Activity is open to citizens residing in India above 18 (eighteen) years of age who must be medically fit and have no criminal conviction or an arrangement or a contract with any third party that prevents the Voter from participating in the Voting Activity. Documents pertaining to medical fitness must be furnished by the Voter on demand if required by the Management.
2. The Management reserves all rights to make amendments to the existing Terms and Conditions from time to time or withdraw the Voting Activity without giving prior notice. It shall be the sole responsibility of the Voter(s) to check the Terms and Conditions of the Voting Activity on the website.
3. The Voter hereby undertakes, warrants and guarantees to the Management that he/she has the full legal capacity to participate in the Voting Activity in accordance with law and also these Terms and Conditions.
4. The Voter acknowledges that he/she has voluntarily chosen to participate in the Voting Activity at his/her free-will and is willing to bear all risk, costs and consequences arising from such participation in the Voting Activity.
5. Voter(s) who do not comply with these Terms and Conditions, or who attempt to interfere with the process of Voting Activity or the operation of the Voting Platform in any way shall be disqualified and the Voting Entries submitted shall not be counted.
6. Total votes of the Movies shall be counted based on a computation finalized by the Management and the movie receiving maximum Votes will be declared as a winner.
7. Voting Entries received by the Management shall be subject to verification by an independent third party auditor appointed by the Management at its sole discretion. No automatic, programmed, robotic or similar means of voting are permitted.
8. The Voter hereby undertakes and warrants that he or she shall not cast the Vote using a device that contains or shall induce any viruses, bugs, or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer resource of the Management.
9. The Management reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend Voting Entries submitted by the Voter, should any virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the voting process. The decision of usability of the Voting Entries received by the Management shall be decided by the Management at its sole discretion.
10. The Management makes no representations, warranties nor provides any undertaking to any of the Voter(s) that any or all of the Voters will be able to qualify for being eligible to get the opportunity of participating in the Voting Activity.
11. The Management shall not be liable / responsible for any lost opportunity, damages, losses, costs, expenses or otherwise suffered / incurred by any of the Voter(s) in the event that the Management is not able to permit the Voter to take part in the Voting Activity in accordance with any of the foregoing provisions.
12. Notwithstanding any other provisions mentioned herein, the Management may, at its sole and absolute discretion, cancel or reschedule the dates for such Voting Activity and at such date and time as it may determine.
13. At no point of time will the Management be obliged to notify the Voter, the Voting Entry of whom has been disqualified by the Management.14. The Voter(s) shall hold harmless and indemnify, the Management, it’s affiliates, their employees, officers, directors or any other person from and against any injury/damage/harm/loss/ death/ mental or emotional trauma suffered by the Voter(s) and/or the Voter in connection with the Voting Activity and also to the extent possible under law, waives all rights to file in person/ through any family member and/or third party any applications, criminal and/or civil proceedings in any courts or forum in India to claim any damages or reliefs.
15. The Voter shall hold harmless and indemnify the Management, it’s affiliates, their employees, officers, directors and/or any other person from and against any suit/litigation/injury/damage/harm/loss suffered by the Management in connection with any act of the Voter and/or the Voting Activity and/or post and/or Voting Entry and/or any third party rights claims with respect to the material submitted by the Voters(s).
16. The Voter(s) shall not hold the Managements, their affiliates, contractors, partners, vendors and promotion and advertising agencies responsible for technical, hardware, software, or other communications malfunctions, errors or failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, unauthorized human intervention, traffic congestion, incomplete or inaccurate capture of voting information (regardless of cause) or failed, incomplete, garbled, jumbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit Voter's ability to vote, including any injury or damage to Voters or any other person's mobile device or email id relating to or resulting from participating in the Voting Activity. The Management and/or their representatives shall not be responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, technically corrupted or misdirected votes, which shall be disqualified. The Management shall attempt to use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure the security and accuracy of all Voting Entries and the methodologies/ processes/ mechanisms of said Voting Entries however the Voters hereby acknowledge and agree that such methodologies/ processes/ mechanisms are not infallible, and that the Management makes no guarantee as to its effectiveness.
17. All Voting Entries and/or any kind of data received by the Management through the Voting Platform become the sole property of the Management and the Management shall at no time be under any kind of obligation to discard, maintain or disclose to the Voter, the said information received.
OTHER TERMS
1. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held by any court or other competent authority to be void or unenforceable in whole or part, the other provisions of these Terms and Conditions and the remainder of the affected provisions shall continue to be valid.
2. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India and subject to exclusive jurisdiction of the competent Courts in Mumbai.
3. The Management is empowered to take a decision on any case not covered by the present Terms and Conditions and the said decisions shall be considered as final and binding on the Voters.
4. Each provision of this Terms and Conditions shall be considered severable, and if for any reason any provision(s), or the application of such provision(s) to any person, entity or circumstance, shall be held invalid or unenforceable, such provision(s) shall be ineffective to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability without invalidating the remaining provisions hereof, or the application of the affected provision to persons, entities or circumstances other than those to which it was held invalid or unenforceable.
NO LIABILITY
1. The Management is in no manner whatsoever responsible and/or shall not be held liable, for any physical injury, death, mental trauma caused to any Voter in any manner whatsoever, in relation to participation in the Voting Activity.
2. The Management, shall be under no liability whatsoever to the Voters, in respect of any loss, damage suffered by the Voters arising from or pursuant to the participation in the Voting Activity or for any and all loss, damage, cost, expense or injury to life or property sustained by the Voter at any stage of the Voting Activity whether or not caused by (1) the Voter’s participation in the Voting Activity; (2) as a result of the any decisions of the Management for any matter relating to the Voting Activity; Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, the Management expressly excludes liability for all direct, indirect and consequential loss or damage, including but not limited to loss or damage to property or for loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings pursuant to participation in the Voting Activity. In no event will the measure of damages include, nor will the Management be liable for, any amounts for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages of any party, including third parties; or for damages attributable to the Voter; or circumstances beyond the Management’s reasonable control.
3. The Voter agrees that he/she shall hold harmless the Management, their affiliates, subsidiaries, their respective employees, officers, sub-contractors, vendors or any other person in connection with the Festival and/or the Voting Activity including but not limited to persons connected to the Voting Entries counting procedure.
4. The Management or any of its affiliates will not be liable for any loss of earnings, employment or otherwise caused to the Voters and arising as a result of his/her participation in the Voting Activity.
5. Managements shall not be held accountable/liable for any disruptions/stoppages/ interruptions or cancellation of the Voting Activity on account of any force majeure factors or otherwise.
6. The Voter hereby agrees to indemnify the Managements or its affiliates against any claims that might arise from his/her actions or omissions while participating in the Voting Activity or due to any representations, misrepresentations or concealment of material facts by the Voter.

Like birdsong at daybreak, hope rises from even the darkest nook of this city. Telling us it will get better. That there is joy to be found in what to the naked eye looks like scrap. From the first shot itself, this film evokes a sense of flight, of ascension. Each well-crafted frame and the easy natural performances feed this narrative with beautiful aesthetics, never losing its grip on what the filmmaker is trying to say. Joyous, confident, beautiful, satisfying. This gem of a film is all this and more. In five minutes this young filmmaker has given us hope. With such an easy display of heft and skill. So, of course, The Dimensions Mumbai Gold Award goes to ‘Nightingales In The Cocoon’ by Praveen Giri.
Dimensions Mumbai Silver Award goes to ‘Halfway’ by Kumar Chheda, for its simplicity, the use of the metaphor of meeting halfway in relationships, the writing that brought out nuances of partnerships, the technical execution of the film, the natural performances with the backdrop of a quintessential part of Bombay - the sea and Juhu beach - reminding us that it's a city that allows everyone to exist, without any judgement or differentiation.
The Best Film goes to ‘Summer of Soul’ directed by Sanjib Gogoi for being a moody portrait of sensitivity through strife and for its poetry without frills. A story that reinstates the fact that a bird put in a cage still doesn’t forget flight.
The Best Actor goes to James Elia as Shankar Pillai in Vakuppu for gliding through his performance as an authority figure, a wounded father, and a man weathered by time - all at the same time and all the time.
After much deliberation, considering the varied and engaging subjects of the shortlisted books, the jury has decided to award the meticulously researched book on cinema - ‘The Mahatma on Celluloid, a Cinematic Biography’ by *Prakash Magdum*. This book has significant and enduring value, not only to the student of cinema but also to the historian, the Gandhian and anyone studying media and communication worldwide.
Having a vibrant, perceptive and talented set of mentees made this year's lab sessions fun and stimulating. All these young critics handled a range of writing and participatory exercises with intelligence and sensitivity. Of course, this also made the task of choosing the best critic a difficult one. Here are the three runners-up for this year: Varun Bhakay, Aadhya Kancharla and Vanij Choksi. However, there was one writer who showed a special ability to combine personal, accessible writing with formal analysis and to also weave in a contextual understanding of film history. The best young critic is Diya Mathur.
In recognition of her lifelong commitment as an ambassador of Asian and Indian cinema internationally, and establishment of institutions that enable Asian talent through her work as a film critic, festival director, community builder and creator of organisations like NETPAC.
In recognition of her contribution of outstanding artistic significance to the field of film and cinema, for archiving the legacies of stalwarts of Indian cinema, and making Indian films accessible globally through her impeccable English subtitling of over 800 Indian films and counting.

Dimensions Mumbai is a competitive short film section that invites young filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 25 from all over India to submit films on the theme of Mumbai city. The films must be no longer than 5 minutes in length. Shortlisted films from all the entries will be shown on the big screen to an enthusiastic Jio MAMI audience. Dimensions Mumbai was first introduced to Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2009 by Ms. Jaya Bachchan, and since then it's been one of the most sought-after sections at the festival. Many filmmakers who've won at Dimensions Mumbai have gone on to direct feature films and web-series.

This year, Jio MAMI announces its new vision to host the world’s biggest and most prestigious South Asian Film Festival and Year Round Programme, focused on building an ecosystem for new cinematic voices, facilitating exchange of ideas, collaborations and business opportunities while bringing the best of world cinema to Mumbai. Academy-Award nominated film director Mira Nair is best known for her groundbreaking films that cross borders of all kinds: Salaam Bombay! (Caméra D’or, Cannes 1988), the pioneering Asian-African romance Mississippi Masala (1991), Golden Globe & Emmy-winning Hysterical Blindness (2001), and the international hit Monsoon Wedding (2001), for which she was the first woman to win Venice Film Festival’s prestigious Golden Lion. Also known for her literary craftsmanship of subcontinental fiction, Mira has filmed The Namesake (2006), The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012), Vanity Fair (2004), A Suitable Boy (2020) and Queen of Katwe (2016). Her next film will be AMRI, an experimental portrait of Amrita Sher-Gil. Her most recent endeavor was directing Monsoon Wedding the Musical, which opened in New York City in May 2023 and is bound for Broadway.
An activist by nature, Nair founded Salaam Balak Trust for Indian street children in 1988 and the Maisha Film Lab in 2004, a free school to train filmmakers in Africa. In 2012, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour.

Michôd’s second feature, The Rover (2014), starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. He wrote and directed the 2017 feature film War Machine, starring Brad Pitt, for Netflix and co-wrote and executive-produced the 2019 Hulu limited-series adaptation of Joseph Heller’s Catch-22. His fourth feature film, The King (2019), starring Timothée Chalamet and Joel Edgerton, premiered at the Venice Film Festival. He is currently completing his fifth movie, Wizards!, starring Pete Davidson and Franz Rogowski, for A24.
The Criterion Collection calls New York-based Isabel Sandoval ‘one of the most exciting and multitalented filmmakers on the indie scene with a bold approach to cinematic style.’ She has directed three features, including Señorita (2011), which premiered at Locarno, and Independent Spirit Award Nominee Lingua Franca (2019), which debuted at Venice. In 2022, Sandoval joined the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and starred in the César-winning documentary short Maria Schneider, 1983. TV directing credits include Under the Banner of Heaven (2022) starring Andrew Garfield and The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022). She is developing her next feature, Tropical Gothic.
Edouard Waintrop has been an Artistic Director of several renowned international film festivals which include the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes, a post he held for seven years and Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland for four years. He has also been a respected critic critic at the French newspaper Liberation for more than 26 years. He has been a big supporter of contemporary Indian cinema internationally.
Kazakh film critic and researcher Dr Gulnara Abikeyeva was an artistic director of the Eurasia International Film Festival in Almaty from 2005 to 2013. She launched the film magazine Asia-kino, served as editor-in-chief of Territoriya Kino, and produced TV programmes about Kazakh cinema. As a member of FIPRESCI and NETPAC, she is a frequent jury member at different international film festivals. She was a Fulbright scholar in the USA (2001–2002) and delivered lectures at Pittsburgh, Harvard, Yale, and Tufts Universities. Recently she was a research scholar in Japan (2018–2019) and delivered lectures at Hokkaido, Tokyo, and Kyoto Universities. She is the author of ten books about cinema, mostly about Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries. Her first book, New Kazakh Cinema, was published in 1998, –followed by Cinema of Central Asia: 1990–2001, which won the White Elephant Award, presented by the Guild of Film Critics of Russia. The book, Nation-Building in Kazakhstan and Other Central Asian States, and How This Process is Reflected in Cinematography (2006) received the prestigious national prize, ‘Kulager’, as the best book of 2007 in Kazakhstan. In 2013, she had three international publications: Cinema in Central Asia: Rewriting Cultural Histories, co-edited by Michael Rouland and Birgit Beumers (Great Britain); The Unknown New Wave of Central Asian Cinema, co-edited by Kim Ji-Seok (South Korea); and Makhmalbaf’s Film House (Russia). Currently, she is a professor at Turan University in Almaty, where she delivers lectures on film history and film theory.

A PhD from the University of Sorbonne, Paris, she taught at Fergusson College in Pune and Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. A jury member at several national and international film festivals and for the National Film Awards as well, she has organised – as a PIC member – film festivals at the National Film Archive of India.
Latika Padgaonkar has co-edited – among other books – Being & Becoming: The Cinemas of Asia, An Asian Film Journey: Selections from Cinemaya, Kenji Mizogchi and the Art of Japanese Cinema, and Making News, Breaking News, Her Own Way. She has translated The French in India: From Diamond Traders to Sanskrit Scholars and Sujata Bajaj – L’Ordre du Monde.

Moodley’s career in film programming has encompassed many leadership roles, including Manager at the Durban International Film Festival (2001–2011) and Programming Consultant for Dubai International Film Festival (2005–2017). He has been a jury member at various film festivals worldwide, including San Sebastián, Busan, Toronto, Rotterdam, El Gouna, Durban, Sarajevo, and Tokyo film festivals. Born in South Africa in 1978, Moodley studied English and philosophy at the University of Natal and worked as a journalist before turning to film programming.
Aditya Shrikrishna is a freelance film critic and journalist from Chennai. He has been a published writer since 2013, and his work has appeared in The Hindu, Frontline, The Signal, The New Indian Express, Vogue, Fifty Two, Mint Lounge, Film Companion, The Wire, The Quint and Economic & Political Weekly. He has covered film festivals such as TIFF, Berlinale, and NYFF as accredited press. He is also the co-founder of The Other Banana, a podcast on South Indian cinema. She is also a Founding Member of the Film Critics Guild and was an advisory member of the Censor Board of Film Certification. She has written several inspirational books, including Colas, Cars & Communal Harmony: A Doff to Bollywood’s Secular Colours, Heartfelt (on how the mind can heal the body), Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal (on the man who built Dainik Bhaskar, a leading daily of India), and Priyanka Chopra: The Dark Horse. She has ideated for Balaji telefilms, curated awards and has been a member of diverse juries. She has also made The Rebel Dancer, a documentary on a firebrand Kuchipudi exponent.
Stutee Ghosh is an award-winning radio jockey, having won the prestigious India Radio Forum Best RJ Award. She started off while she was still doing her post-graduation in English Literature at Delhi University. She forayed into film reviews and criticism and has been associated with TV and digital media as well. Born and brought up in Delhi, she is currently Head of Programming for Fever FM Mumbai. She hosts The Superwomaniya Show, which is aired nationally. She is also a film critic and a Celeb Chat show host with the Hindustan Times. She conceptualised and hosts the first-ever show on radio dedicated to books called Stutee’s Book Club, where she regularly features bestselling authors talking about their latest books. Ghosh has been part of film festival juries. As a member of the Film Critic’s Guild, she curated the Best Bengali Film Awards at the first-ever Critic’s Choice Film Awards 2019.
